Croatia
has been called 'Europe's number one camping destination'. There
are over 100 camping grounds located along the Croatian coast. The
most developed region in terms of the number of campgrounds, capacity
and quality of service is Istria, Kvarner and its nearby islands,
while Dalmatia is the most attractive part of the country due to
its nature, combined with its diverse coast. Most campgrounds are
located along the shore within easy reach of the beaches. Most are
only open between May and September although a few have a slightly
longer season. Most campsites charge per person, per night with
additional charges for a vehicle, electricity and around 30% more
if you have a caravan. It is still however, a cheap method of accommodation.
Camping is the most popular form of accommodation in Croatia, 33%
of tourists visiting Croatia stay in campgrounds.
Most
campsites are of large proportion and have every imaginable facility
such as restaurants, shops and rows of caravans. However, there
is an increasing number of smaller, family owned grounds starting
to appear.
You
cannot simply camp anywhere in Croatia, it is prohibited by law.
There
are also special nudist campsites, marked FKK. These are among the
best sites as they usually have a quiet, remote location.
